Ryanair to launch Liverpool-Ibiza route

RYANAIR has today announced it is to begin flying to Ibiza from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) next month.

The airline, which will offer 44 destinations from Speke when the service launches, will fly three times a week to the Spanish party island.

John Botty, Ryanair’s UK marketing manager, said: “We expect it to be big and believe we will carry an additional 600,000 passengers from Liverpool, which will take us to 3m passengers a year.

“We expect passenger numbers from Liverpool to continue to grow. We are working closely with The Mersey Partnership and Liverpool John Lennon Airport for it to continue to do so.”

The route will initially run from March 30 to October 24, and the airline said it will then make a decision based on passenger numbers.

The airline recently said it is to suspend four routes from JLA to the Polish cities of Gdansk, Poznan, Szczecin and Wroclaw, after a “drop off” in popularity of flights to the country.

It has also pulled Fuerteventura and Valencia because of what it described as “a breakdown in communications” with Spanish agencies.
