Young apprentices taken on to help rebuild Wirral

TWO Birkenhead teenagers are starting construc-tion apprenticeships with affordable housing and regeneration specialist Lovell, working on the large-scale programme to build new homes on the Fiveways estate in Rock Ferry.

More than 280 new homes are being built by Lovell in the neighbour-hood through the NewHeartlands Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder programme delivered by Wirral Council.

As part of the HMR programme, Lovell has taken on apprentice joiners Blaine Hannon, 18, and Kieran Calland, 17, who are starting Modern Apprentice-ships with the firm. Over the next two years, the teenagers will complete a structured training programme combining working on-site at Fiveways with a day-release course at Wirral Metropolitan College. Both are working towards NVQ Level 2s in carpentry and joinery.
