ENTREPRENEURS Holly Barton and Ben Macklin have designs on international stardom after their boutique proved such a hit with Liverpool’s fashionistas.
The pair, both 19, set up their bespoke fashion and makeover studio, Fredrick and Maddison, in Colquitt Street, last November, offering unique outfits for men and women.
It is a dream come true for the two who have been friends since they were toddlers. After leaving school, Ben, from Walton, and Holly, from Kensington, spent two years on the dole.
But their business idea impressed Jobcentre Plus so much that they recommended them to Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG), in Church Street, which delivers government-funded welfare to work initiatives. Business advice and a £2,500 grant from PPDG towards establishing their shop, and help from the Prince’s Trust, set Holly and Ben on their way.
The pair create one-off styles and outfits for special occasions using a range of fabrics from around the world to make each item unique. They also offer makeover styling advice through hair and make-up specialists.
Ben said: “The shop is fantastic. No-one expected us to be able to achieve this and to be as good as we are at what we do best. Now we’re getting our name out there, there’s no stopping us. We don’t do mad, we do amazing.”
The duo are already dreaming of the international stage. Ben added: “Once we are firmly established, we would want to look at opening similar stores in Paris, London, Milan and New York.”
