A TOOLKIT to inspire future millionaires is to be given to primary school pupils.
The kit will be provided to youngsters aged from five to eight to encourage them to “think business”.
Executive Member for Enterprise and Tourism Cllr Gary Millar is launching the scheme as part of European Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Week between May 6-14.
He said the kit will help children think of innovative, yet simple business-led schools projects as ways of working with other schools, businesses, community groups, friends and families to put something back into their communities.
He said: “Whether it’s raising money for a charity or fundraising to get more equipment for the school, the step-by-step ‘how to guide’ will help give schoolchildren the skills to run a mini-business.
“This initiative will give young people the skills needed to succeed in business as well as encouraging children to ‘put something back’ in to the community through volunteering, being entrepreneurial and charitable giving.
“The skills agenda is essential to the city if Liverpool is to continue to grow. We have to give every opportunity to our young people that we can.”
The toolkit, which will be distributed to all schools in the city, will include instructions, suggestions and examples and a “tick list” of things to do to set up a successful mini-business or run a charity fundraising event.
It will explain how to set up a team and come up with an idea to run an event or market a product.
The week will also feature a “Green Business Day” in Liverpool to promote entrepreneurship across Europe.
The May 7 event will include a breakfast networking session at the Mocha Lounge in Sir Thomas Street, followed by a Green Business Fair in a marquee at Chavasse Park.
In the evening, the focus switches to Studio 2 at Parr Street Studios when Prof Eric Bichard, Professor of Regeneration and Sustainable Development, University of Salford and sustainability advisor to the city of Liverpool, will be speaking about sustainable business.
Cllr Millar said: “I'm proud to say that with over 20 events and more to come, Liverpool is proving to be the most successful “week” in Europe.”
