KNOWSLEY metals specialist Stewart Group is planning to grow its business in sub-Saharan Africa after buying out its joint venture partner in South Africa.
Stewart formed the joint venture with Environmental Services Group (ESG) in 1999, but says becoming the sole owner of the business will allow it to expand its operations on the continent.
Stewart, which tests metals and ores for mining and other industries worldwide, was bought out by its managers in 2006. It was known as Alex Stewart Group until it was renamed this year.
Managing director John Notman-Watt said: “This is the latest step in the evolution of the Stewart Group, following our re-brand in February.
“Becoming the sole owner of our operations in South Africa allows us to consolidate our business in the region, while leaving us well positioned to pursue further exploration and expansion plans in sub-Saharan Africa.
“We would like to thank ESG for their valuable contribution over the last decade, to what has been a successful and productive partnership throughout this joint venture.”
