Liverpool excels in European enterprise week

THE European Small and Medium Enterprises Week starts today, and Liverpool boasts it is the most enterprising region, with more than 30 events planned.

The May 6-14 programme is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and explaining the support available to entrepreneurs from local to European level. Among a range of initiatives taking place from today are an “Enterprising kids” toolkit distributed to schools to encourage pupils as young as five to think business.

The Merseyside branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing claims to have organised the world’s biggest marketing clinic for small business on May 12 and tomorrow, May 7, sees a “Green Business Day” at Liverpool One.

Cllr Gary Millar, executive member for enterprise and tourism, said: “Small and medium-sized enterprises are the driving force of Liverpool’s economy and vital for its future prosperity. Little did I know that, when I brought European SME Week to Liverpool, just how successful it would be.

“With more than 30 events already arranged and more to come, Liverpool is proving to be the most successful SME week in Europe. We all need to work together to support small and medium-sized businesses.”

Economic development organisation Liverpool Vision has co-ordinated its own events with others organised by a range of other local agencies.
