Merseyrail joint operator Serco on track with contract wins

SERCO, joint operator of the Merseyrail franchise, said it has made a strong start to the year, in a trading update for the market and its annual meeting yesterday.

The international services provider runs Merseyside’s rail system with partner NedRail.

Serco chief executive Christopher Hyman revealed that the group has seen “good passenger revenue growth” in all its UK rail franchises, which also include London’s Docklands Light Railway.

And he revealed that, since January this year, Serco has signed new contracts worth £1bn and has achieved preferred bidder status in further deals worth £250m.
