Building firm CPUK wins contracts worth £13m

SKELMERSDALE-BASED building firm Construction Partnership UK (CPUK) has won four new contracts worth around £13m.

CPUK has begun working on site on all four major developments across the North

West of England in the past month. Steve Burke, CPUK managing director, is cautious, but believes the contract wins, together with several major new projects they are negotiating to sign up, prove the outlook for the construction industry in the North West is less bleak than it was six months ago.

He said: “The contracts we have sealed, and started on site in recent weeks, shows it is not all doom and gloom in the construction sector.

“There are good, solid projects going ahead in the North West with more in the pipeline.”

CPUK is building a new £2.6m two-storey office complex at the National Savings & Investment site, in Blackpool.

The company is also on site building a modern 60-bed care home in Southport for Melton Healthcare. The Birch Abbey development is worth £3.5m.

And its construction team has begun preparation work on a £6m- plus luxury private residential scheme, on the outskirts of Blackburn.

The project, near Billinge Wood, is set to become one of east Lancashire’s most exclusive addresses. Features include private leisure facilities onsite.

CPUK has now also sealed a £600,000 contract with construction giant Costain on a PFI water treatment project in Greater Manchester.

Steve Burke said his company was also negotiating a number of multi-million contracts in all sectors of the construction industry – with large-scale projects in the pipeline later in the year. “There is no doubt jobs are taking longer to get on site and that is something we have to account for in business planning terms,” he said.

“But we believe our strong record of delivery still plays a major part in winning work and we are well placed in ongoing negotiations relating to a number of exciting new schemes which are a little further down the line.

“It is, however, good for us and good for the local economy, that the contracts we are winning are across all sectors, from government work to private housebuilders, and that has to be a positive.”
