A COMPANY that has developed a device to slash carbon emissions from vehicles has been named the latest monthly winner of the Merseyside Innovation Awards.
Origo Industries, based at Daresbury Laboratory science and innovation campus, was honoured for its Ecobox device which captures CO2 emissions and uses them to create a biofuel.
The Ecobox is being used at Liverpool John Lennon Airport to capture the CO2 exhaled by passengers.
It has also been shortlisted for the £10,000 cash prize at this year’s innovation awards annual final in July.
Origo founder and chief executive Ian Houston said: “If one million cars were fitted with the Ecobox, they would remove over 8,000 tones of CO2 from the atmosphere a day. Winning the awards would provide much needed funding to bring us one step closer to achieving this goal.”
