Liverpool-born pilot Fergus proud to fly Eastern Airways’ first routes out of his home city

EASTERN Airlines’ two new routes from Liverpool John Lennon airport next Monday will be a flight of fancy for pilot Fergus Saha.

Liverpool-born Fergus, 29, is returning to his home city where he learned to fly and where he gained his private pilot’s licence before he could drive.

The senior first officer, who was born in the former Mill Road hospital, is normally based at Eastern’s Aberdeen airport hub, but will fly Eastern’s two new routes from Liverpool JLA to Aberdeen and Southampton.

He said: “It’s a dream come true and I’m very proud to be flying Eastern Airways’ first service from my home city. No matter where I’m based, Liverpool will always be my home.”

Fergus had always wanted to be a pilot and started learning to fly in 1996, flying with Cheshire Air Training School which is now called Merseyflight.

He said: “My first flying lessons were at Liverpool and it’s fantastic to return as a commercial pilot.”

He will fly the 29-seater British Aerospace Jetstream 41 aircraft, which cruises at 330mph.
