CARPHONE Warehouse’s Warrington-based Talk Talk broadband business has completed the £236m takeover of rival Tiscali UK.
The deal was given the go-ahead by the European Commission last week. The commission said the takeover would not distort the market as Carphone would still face strong competition from rivals such as BT.
The deal will see Talk Talk become the second biggest UK broadband provider behind BT.
Carphone is planning to spin off Talk Talk as a separate listed business next July.
It employs several hundred call centre staff in Warrington linked to TalkTalk and Opal, its business to business brand focusing on the small firms market.
