WALLASEY Golf Club has invested £400,000 in a new watering and irrigation system after securing bank funding.
The new system means the course will remain in perfect playing condition all year round, and ensures the club does not have to pay for costly repairs to its green and tees that have dried out. Royal Bank of Scotland provided the club with a £285,000 funding package to put towards the cost.
Wallasey Golf Club was established in 1891 and has more than 600 members.
The club is famous throughout the golfing world as the Stableford scoring system was devised by Dr Frank Stableford, a captain of the club. The first ever Stableford was played at Wallasey in 1932.
The links course was the final qualifying course for the British Open in 2006, when it was held at nearby Royal Liverpool Golf Club, in Hoylake.
Treasurer Chris Robinson said: “Keeping the course in the best possible condition is the club’s most important consideration.”
