A RECRUITMENT drive has started to fill 210 jobs at Liverpool’s Hilton Hotel.
The Liverpool One-based £60m 215-room development is the chain’s first hotel in the city.
And the world-famous chain says it wants to provide as many jobs for local people as possible, to ensure a typical Liverpool welcome for guests.
Elaine Cawley, HR manager for Hilton Liverpool, said: “We understand the importance and need to recruit locally, so that when our guests arrive at the hotel they can enjoy a warm and friendly Liverpool welcome.”
The chain has teamed up with JobCentre Plus and Liverpool City Council to find the right staff for a host of jobs from receptionists to porters and conference and events personnel.
They are targeting the unemployed and anyone facing the threat of redundancy.
Successful applicants will then undergo a bespoke training package funded by the Learning and Skills Council and delivered by the council.
The training package, which is likely to last two weeks, will include some elements of Hilton’s own training programmes, as well as some general customer service skills and accredited training, such as first aid and manual handling.
Elaine Cawley said: “Through JobCentre Plus, we can ensure that we not only get the best candidates for the positions we have open, but that everyone applying for a job gets a fair chance in the recruitment process.”
JobCentre Plus account manager, Jan Palin, added: “We’re delighted with the way the relationship with Hilton Liverpool has developed and with the package that is on offer for jobseekers. We’ve already seen significant interest in the jobs on offer.”
The terms include flexible contract hours and job shares, including term-time and school hour projects to ensure lone parents and those returning to work are not deterred from applying.
The hotel, which includes almost 50 apartments situated on top of the accommodation, is set to open this October.
It will be the final piece in the Liverpool One jigsaw after the phased opening of the £1bn retail development in May and October last year.
It is situated just yards away from the flagship John Lewis store.
