Shop Direct targets European-based Brits

LIVERPOOL-based online and home shopping giant Shop Direct is today launching its Littlewoods brand across Europe.

The new Littlewoodseurope.com website is aiming to appeal to expat British people living in France, Germany, Spain and Portugal.

The site will offer affordable clothing, footwear and home accessories and its target market is women and young families.

It will offer 14-day free home approval guarantee and a weekly newsletter as well as credit and debit payment options.

High street brands on the site include Levi’s, Adidas, Lipsy, French Connection, Nike and Firetrap.

Shop Direct chief executive Mark Newton-Jones said: “This is an exciting proposition for many British families living abroad and their European neighbours who want to shop at one of their favourite British online retailers.

“Lots of customers have been asking us to provide a European online offer for Littlewoods products so we are pleased to be able to announce the launch of Littlewoodseurope.com.”

The website is currently in English with the intention to launch in local languages in the future. Full roll out will occur in stages as the proposition develops across territories.

Shop Direct Group is the UK’s largest online and home shopping retailer with annual sales of £1.6bn. It claims to have 5m active customers and employs around 10,500 people and its brands include Great Universal, Kays and Marshall Ward.

In July it brought one of the most iconic British retail names back to life when it launched woolworths.co.uk.

Shop Direct, which bought the brand name in February, kept the recognisable red logo and many of the products Woolies was best known for, including CDs, DVDs, children’s party and fancy dress, technology and toys.

The compnay later reported that in the week following the launch more than 1m logged onto the site.

Customers had ordered more than a tonne of its pic ’n’ mix sweets – with cola bottles the most popular.

Clothing from the Ladybird brand, back to school kit, party accessories and inflatables had also sold well.
