THE first virtual rugby club has announced a sponsorship deal with My Global Rugby ahead of the club’s official launch in Liverpool on Friday.
The Rugby Club of Liverpool – unaffiliated with a team, or indeed a code – is the brainchild of former St Helens RLFC chief executive and Daily Post sports columnist Sean McGuire.
He said: “We are looking to recreate the friendly, relaxed atmosphere that is associated with rugby clubs in Liverpool, a city with lots of fans but no club of its own.”
Chris Shirling-Rooke, co-founder of My Global Rugby, said: “My Global Rugby brings together rugby players and clubs, and similarly this new initiative brings together rugby fans who will also have mutual business interests so we are delighted to be able to support its launch and development.”
The Rugby Club of Liverpool’s first lunch is this Friday, from 12.30pm, at the Fly in the Loaf, Hardman Street. For details, call Dominic Hornsby on 0151 708 0817.
