A TRIO of directors from fibre-optic network specialist’s i3 Group have successfully cycled all the way from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of three charities – Cancer Care, Water Aid and MacMillan Cancer Support.
Elfed Thomas, chief executive and founder of the Haydock-based company, and fellow directors Adrian Crook and John Bookless, completed the 800-mile journey in just 13 days using only pedal power and have raised about £30,000 for the charities. Having set a target of £100,000, they still have a way to go before they close the fund at the end of next month.
Mr Thomas said: “It has been a very tough experience.
“It has been a personal triumph. After day five, I thought I would have to give up, but we worked as a team to motivate each other and make it to John O’Groats.
“I am thrilled that we have managed to raise so much money for our chosen charities – all have personal significance and we are proud to have done something to support these wonderful organisations.”
The company has pioneered the FS System, a patented method of using ready-made ducts such as the sewer system, to deploy super-fast fibre-optic networks quicker and more cost effectively than traditional road digging.
