A PALM oil refinery set to open in Bootle next spring has clinched a multi-million pound supply deal with snacks giant United Biscuits (UB).
New Britain Palm Oil is building a six-acre £18m processing plant on Regent Road.
It will provide food manufacturers with certified products from sustainable resources, rather than rain forest locations which jeopardise wildlife and indigenous inhabitants.
The two-year deal with UB, which has local operations in Wavertree and Aintree, is believed to be of a similar magnitude to a £66m supply deal signed early last month with Italian confectioner Ferrero.
New Britain Palm Oil director Alan Chaytor said the deal represents a “significant part of our capacity from our UK palm oil refinery”.
He added: “We expect to sign further supply agreements in due course.”
Dr Simon Roulston, oils sourcing manager for United Biscuits, said: “UB is delighted to be working with New Britain Palm Oil, who are pioneers in the production of sustainable palm oil.”
