EMPLOYERS’ organisation the CBI predicts tight wage restraint but a thaw in the ongoing recruitment freeze.
New research by the CBI and recruitment specialists Harvey Nash claims that half of all employers are planning to freeze pay altogether, with only 4% offering an inflation-beating rise. However, the number of firms operating a recruitment freeze has dropped from 61% in the spring to 37%.
The poll also found firms easing extreme measures during the downturn, such as extended shut-downs or cuts in overtime.
