CHEMICALS giant Ineos Chlor Vinyls has announced a multi-million pound investment at its Runcorn plant.
Ineos said the investment, worth “several tens of millions of pounds” will see an upgrade of its chloromethanes facilities at the site.
The work will be undertaken over the next five years and the firm believes it will underpin its position in the chloromethanes sector for the next decade.
The investment will take the form of the replacement of an ageing asset and an upgrading of some existing ancillary plant.
It follows the successful completion of a number of long-term contractual agreements for the plant’s output.
Ashley Reed, business director for INEOS ChlorVinyls, said: “This is a decisive step forward for the chloromethanes business at Runcorn Site and in addition it secures a significant portion of the chlorine output at the site.
“The size and scale of the assets at Runcorn ensure that we remain a strongly competitive producer of chlorinated derivatives to our customers.”
