Eatonfield secures 50% stake in Cumbria scheme

CHESHIRE property developer and housebuilder Eatonfield Group has secured a 50% interest in an option to acquire 265 acres of land situated to the north of the 77-acre ex-Corus Rail Site already owned by the group at Workington, Cumbria.

Current owners of the site, Allerdale Council and Cumbria County Council, have granted an option to Port Derwent to acquire the site at its pre-planning valuation and, following the exercising of that option, the site will be acquired by Port Derwent Workington, in which Eatonfield and Port Derwent will be equal shareholders.

The master plan for the option land will include a marina and associated facilities, residential development, including town houses and apartments overlooking the marina.

It is also proposed that there will be restaurants, two hotels and associated conference and leisure facilities, together with retail, offices and a visitor centre. Two outline planning applications for the site are expected to be submitted by Easter, 2010.
