BILL Parfitt has been appointed as UK chairman of General Motors (GM) with the aim of preparing the Vauxhall business for “future growth.”
His appointment was announced by the US-owned car giant today as the latest management shake-up – including the announcement of Duncan Aldred as Vauxhall managing director – following its emergence from bankruptcy protection in America and new funding.
Mr Parfitt had previously announced his retirement from his role as UK chairman, but has agreed to remain in his post.
A GM statement said: “These appointments strengthen the Vauxhall brand and reaffirm GM’s commitment to the UK as a leading global market.
Nick Reilly, former plant manager at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory and now president of GM Europe, said: “At this critical time of restructuring our European operation Vauxhall stands out with a brand strength and loyal customer base that can continue to grow and strengthen.
“With Bill’s strategic vision and a strong operational grip from Duncan, together they will drive the growth of the Vauxhall brand in the UK.”
