Burscough Swimfin inventor trading in 46 overeas markets after help from UK Trade and Investment

FORMER swimming instructor Kevin Moseley is buoyant after securing global orders for his Swimfin teaching aid.

He set up in his Burscough garage and, with the help of Government-backed export agency UK Trade and Investment, is now selling the device to swimming associations around the world in 46 markets, including South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

He created Swimfin for a bit of fun at the end of swimming lessons, but one day let a struggling four-year-old pupil use the sharks fin-shaped aid.

He said: “It gave him freedom, confidence and mobility in the water.”

Swimfin acts as a streamlined self-adjusting buoyancy aid.

Having secured worldwide patents Kevin approached UKTI for assistance in winning exports and through their Passport to Export programme is now aiming to boost his £260,000 turnover – two-thirds from overseas markets – to £1m next year.

Judith Kyle, of UKTI North West, said they were able to help Kevin with the fine detail and cut through red tape.
