KNOWSLEY Council is seeking a construction partner for the £25m regeneration of Stockbridge Village centre.
The facelift will include a range of new facilities, such as a new neighbourhood centre with a swimming pool, state-of-the-art gym and leisure facilities, a learning resource centre containing a library, a primary school with a children’s centre and family centre, and an outdoor play area.
This is part of the council’s vision to create a bright, new future for the area following a series of consultation events with residents.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Knowsley’s cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills, said: “The regeneration of the village centre is just the start of the transformation of Stockbridge Village.
“We will work with our partners to make further improvements to housing and employment opportunities for the whole of the area.”
Cllr Bill Weightman, ward councillor for Stockbridge, added: “The proposals for the village centre will provide the residents of Stockbridge Village with the access to improved and enhance facilities.
“I am pleased to see that progress is being made with the development.”
Companies are being invited to tender for the work as the council’s construction partner.
Nick Kavanagh, Knowsley’s executive director for regeneration, economy and skills, said: “This moves this major project one step further on. We are hoping to have chosen the contractor by next February, with work planned to start later in the year.”
The plans for the redevelopment of Stockbridge Village are part of a wider vision to make significant social and environmental improvements to the area.
The authority said design works continue and the successful construction partner will have a key role to play in this process.
Ahead of plans being finalised, a further proposed community consultation event is planned for early in the new year.
Site preparation works continue, with the recent demolition of a former car wash.
