SPEKE-BASED firm A Algeo has enjoyed a step up in fortunes with a novel product ideal for the current icy conditions.
Its Spiky “ice traction” device can be worn over shoes and helps prevent slipping in ice and snow.
The company’s website has been inundated with tens of thousands of enquiries and orders since the cold snap reduced parts of Britain to Arctic conditions, and staff are working round the clock to fulfil orders.
The professional foot care and orthopaedic supplies company says the Spiky could be used by people working outdoors, such as postal staff and construction workers.
Spikys feature rubber straps which fit over shoes and boots to prevent slipping.
The device is made from 76% natural rubber and 24% high-grade synthetic rubber so it can stretch to up to 6.5 times its original length, allowing it to accommodate a broad range of footwear.
Algeo says the spikes are made from hard-wearing steel for better anti-slip protection on ice and snow, and the products come in two different styles to cover the sole of the shoe or the sole and the heel for extra- safe treading in slippy conditions.
Algeo was founded in 1881 and opened its first overseas office, in Australia, last year.
