John Sisk & Son wins Liverpool rail contract

CONSTRUCTION group John Sisk & Son (Sisk) has been awarded a £1.3m package of works in Liverpool and Manchester by Network Rail.

The contract will see the firm refurbish and update a number of bridges across this part of the national rail network.

Carl Hendry, director of Sisk Rail, said: “This project will involve specialist staff working on isolated electrified lines, with careful project management required to ensure minimal disruption.

“Fortunately, our Manchester office is local and has the right refurbishment expertise for Network Rail.”

The package of works covers a total of seven bridges across Liverpool and Manchester, and will include structural refurbishment and installation of new sections, grit blasting, recoating as well as masonry repairs.

The projects will be completed within a 20- week period.

Sisk Rail will have to ensure the work has minimal impact to the rail network.

It will co-ordinate partial closures and ensure measures including power isolation, bridge jacking and scaffold encapsulation are managed.

The contract wins come as the Manchester office had a successful end to 2009.

CitizenM awarded it the contract to build a new hotel in Glasgow, and in Lancaster where the firm is constructing a mixed-use scheme in the city centre.
