JAGUAR Land Rover backed a drive to inspire youngsters to consider careers in industry at an event promoting manufacturing and engineering.
The car maker joined Runcorn’s Chemicals Northwest and Warrington-based Envirolink Northwest and Cogent at “Make It in Industry” in Bolton.
Pupils from Crosby’s Merchant Taylors’ girls’ school were among those who took part.
Land Rover makes its popular Freelander 2 model at its Halewood plant, which will also begin production of the “baby Range Rover” LRX next year.
Nicola Eagleton-Crowther, campaign manager for Make It, said: “The Government predicts that more than 1m people will work in the low carbon economy by 2015 and that the top jobs of the future will be in advanced manufacturing and engineering.
“We showed teenagers the exciting reality of working in industry and demonstrated that their perceptions of dark satanic mills are about 30 years out of date.”
