THE spotlight falls on three more awards this week, as the deadline for the Liverpool Daily Post Regional Business Awards approaches.
The awards, which have been running since 1992, will recognise the achievements of companies large and small from across the region at a dinner at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral, on Thursday, May 27, hosted by Peter Sissons.
There are nine awards to recognise the achievements of businesses in the last 12 months.
The Liverpool Vision Investment of the Year award will go to the company which can best demonstrate how investment since January, 2009, has had a beneficial impact on the business and the local economy.
Firms that are new to the region or existing businesses making fresh investments are eligible.
A Liverpool Vision spokesperson said: “As the economic development company responsible for the city's physical and economic regeneration, Liverpool Vision continues to lead Liverpool's transformation, which has been built upon ideas and investment.
“We have set out a long-term vision for Liverpool as a confident and competitive international city, a vibrant knowledge centre and cultural capital where dynamic creativity drives a thriving and inclusive economy – simply one of the best places to live, work, invest and enjoy life.
“This requires our partners in industry to show ambition and commitment through investment, which is why we are supporting this award to highlight and recognise the finest examples over the last year.”
Last year, T-Systems, the billing and direct mail arm of Deutsche Telekom, which created 40 jobs in Bromborough, caught the judges’ eye.
Liverpool John Moores University Knowledge Business of the Year category is open to any business engaged in the commercialisation of research and development of intellectual property, including pure sciences, technology, software or professional know-how.
The judges will be looking for evidence of, or at least the clear potential for, profitable trading in the knowledge sector as well as a beneficial economic impact to the region. Aimes Grid Services, which provides high volume advanced internet services to the business market, was the stand-out winner of this award in 2009.
An LJMU spokesperson said: “In addition to being first in the North West for the impact of its research and having a world-class reputation for academic excellence, LJMU understands the needs of industry.
“Through establishing Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, providing training and Continuing Professional Development and contributing positively to tomorrow’s workforce, the University demonstrates its commitment to supporting business.
“LJMU is also actively involved with establishing new companies and the portfolio of businesses in which the University now holds an interest is 53, with a turnover of £7.5m and approximately 150 staff.”
