BUSINESS Minister Ian Lucas has pledged the Government will do all in its power to secure production of Vauxhall’s electric vehicle for the Ellesmere Port car plant.
He attended the Geneva Motor Show where he took the opportunity to visit the Opel stand where he met the Opel/Vauxhall chief executive, and former Ellesmere Port plant director, Nick Reilly.
Price of place on the stand was taken by Vauxhall’s Ampera electric vehicle, and Mr Lucas said: “I was delighted to see the Vauxhall Ampera at the Geneva Motor Show.
“I have been lucky enough to drive this electric vehicle, so I know that it’s a great driving experience that will play an important part of our low carbon future.
“The Government is working hard to secure its production at Ellesmere Port, especially as it’s based on the new Astra that’s been rolling off the lines at the plant.”
The Ampera will initially be produced in America, but will switch to a European plant within two years.
