Deadline nears for 2010 Regional Business Awards

COMPANIES from across Merseyside and Cheshire have been quick to shout about their successes in the last year, with entries for the 2010 Regional Business Awards arriving from companies across a range of sectors.

There are just two weeks before the closing date for the awards, which are being held at Liverpool Cathedral on Thursday, May 27.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) is sponsoring the medium business of the year award “in recognition of the outstanding achievements of Merseyside businesses and their vital contribution to the local and regional economy”.

An NWDA spokesperson said: “Over the last 18 months, the NWDA’s key priority has been to provide the right support and assistance to businesses across Merseyside and the North West to ensure they are well placed to grow and survive the effects of the economic downturn.

“We acted quickly, putting in place a multi-million package of grants, loans and equity finance products to ensure businesses had alternative avenues to finance and support.

“We are committed to creating the right conditions across the region to enable all businesses to thrive and in the challenging economic climate, it is more important than ever that we showcase and reward the successes of businesses that are demonstrating outstanding business performance.”

The Green Business award – won last year by Roy Hankinson Group – is being supported by Liverpool Hope University. It has a nationally-respected environmental studies department, international expertise on sustainability and is currently working with Chester & District Housing Trust to develop carbon zero house designs.

University vice-chancellor, Prof Gerald Pillay, said: “Living ethically is to live and work in a sustainable way. Hope University is delighted to showcase businesses that promote sustainable ways of living and dealing.”

Liverpool Hope University’s tradition of business support has been embedded in the development of the recently-established Hope Business Gateway, which has facilitated the development of a successful business recovery programme targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises.

Dr Martin Carey, Hope Business Gateway chief executive said: “Business support is no longer a marginal activity in the University sector, and Liverpool Hope is a leader in terms of engaging with the third sector and addressing corporate ethics issues, and we are proud to be associated with this award.”
