Easyjet says CAA figures make it UK’s biggest airline

NO-FRILLS airline Easyjet claims it is the UK’s biggest airline for the second year in succession, based on new figures issued by the Civil Aviation Authority.

The statistics show that Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s biggest operator by passenger numbers flew 28.15m customers at UK airports last year, compared with Ryanair’s 28.1m and British Airways’ 26.3m.

Andy Harrison, Easyjet chief executive, said: “Easyjet is now the UK’s national airline.

“Passengers have clearly voted with their feet, boarding Easyjet’s aircraft more than any other airline.”

Since the airline was founded 15 years ago it has grown from a two-jet operation to one that operates out of 16 airports across the UK.

It is also making headway in Europe with major operations at airports such as Milan Malpensa.

This year the carrier expects to grow by 10% to carry more than 50m passengers across Europe.

It currently offers in excess of 500 routes across 29 countries including 27 at JLA.
