JAGUAR Land Rover has been honoured at a prestigious business awards.
The luxury motors marque, which employs about 2,000 staff at its Halewood plant making the Freelander 2 model, was named International Asian Business of the Year in the UK at the weekend’s Eastern Eye Asian Business Awards 2010 in the Sofitel London Heathrow.
The JLR business is owned by Tata Motors, part of the Tata Indian conglomerate who bought the brands two years ago from then owner Ford for £1.15bn.
Until last December, the plant also made the Jaguar X-Type model.
The acquisition was then the largest made by an Indian company overseas.
Car sales slumped as the credit crunch began to take effect, but today revenues for the two brands are making a strong recovery.
David Miliband, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, was the chief guest and presented awards at the evening which also revealed this year’s Asian “rich list”, headed by Lakshmi Mittal, who is worth £17bn.
