KLM pledge to develop Liverpool’s link with the world

DUTCH airline KLM has vowed to promote its Liverpool link over the next year and drive it into profit.

It launched a three-times-a-day service to Amsterdam a year ago that then connected with more than 800 worldwide routes operated by KLM and its Skyteam network.

It will add a fourth daily flight to the link on May 10, despite the route failing to make a profit over the past 12 months.

But KLM Air France general manager UK and Ireland Henri Hourcade pledged the airline’s support for the link based on its future sales trends.

He told LDP Business: “Even if we are not profitable now, we believe in the product.

“We have a very beautiful product and we just need to sell it correctly and develop the awareness that you can fly to the world.”

He added: “We still need to convince some customers going to Manchester and we have to develop the awareness of this service from your home, which is a better service than taking a car and going to a further airport.

“This is our job for the next year.

“The market is recovering in the UK and Liverpool, which is a dynamic business growing region.”
