Health@Work says Liverpool workers are suffering mental health illnesses

A LIVERPOOL charity is warning that mental health illness among employees is on the rise after the sustained recession.

Health@Work has highlighted a new report revealing that 47% of workers are experiencing depressive symptoms during the recession which is five times higher than levels recorded before the slump.

The study, by Elizabeth Finn Care and Roehampton University, reveals young people aged 16 to 30 were found to be most likely to be suffering from depressive symptoms, with 43% suffering from anxiety and 45% from stress.

Health@Work is aiming to tackle this in Liverpool with three projects to help employees and employers deal with mental health conditions.

The charity’s three projects are funded by the Government’s Challenge Fund. The first is a 10-day health, work and wellbeing course. Representatives from firms can join for free.

The second is a series of half-day sessions called Beyond Blue, which are for line managers.

The third is a pilot scheme known as the Quiet Place and its aim is to help develop emotional intelligence.
