Deeside aerospace engineering firm RD Precision saved in pre-pack

UP TO 100 jobs have been saved at a Deeside aerospace engineering company after it was bought following a pre-pack adminstration.

RD Precision, based in Queensferry, and its Polish subsidiary have been acquired by Gardner UK for £1.14m.

The business manufactures precision parts for aircraft wings, with approvals to supply a number of aviation firms including Airbus, Hawker Beechcraft, Stork Fokker and BAE Systems.

The Manchester office of Grant Thornton was called in after the company ran into financial difficulties and advised on the buy-out.

Matt Dunham, a restructuring partner at Grant Thornton and joint administrator of RD Precision, said: “This was the most attractive deal for the creditors as it provides certainty of the outcome, will save a number of jobs and protected the existing supply line for its customers.”

Derbyshire-based Gardner Aerospace is part of Nuneaton, Warwickshire-based Gardner Group which supplies metallic aerostructure details, equipment and engine components to the global aviation industry.

RD Precision was founded in 1988 as a two-man operation business in a small industrial unit in the North West of England, but soon became successful enough to move to a purpose-built facility in Queensferry.

Investment vehicle Better Capital Fund advanced funds for the deal.
