Liverpool printer G&H placed into administration

THIRTY-SIX printing jobs are in jeopardy after Manchester- based parent company Gask & Hawley (G&H) put its Liverpool site into administration.

G&H sent staff home from the Sandhills Lane plant two weeks ago after the loss of two major contracts.

Now it says it is closing its web offset operation comprising the Liverpool site and a sister factory in Chorley. Manchester-based MCR has been appointed administrator and Unite the Union regional officer Alison Jones said they told her they are trying to find a buyer before this Friday.

She said staff will receive an update next Wednesday: “These are extremely worrying times for the members. We hope a buyer can be found.

“Everything is in limbo until next Wednesday.”

G&H managing director Earl Hawley said the web offset division has lost £4m in contracts: “That volume of work was irreplaceable as cheap prices and desperation by PLCs had taken over common sense.”

No-one from MCR was available for comment.
