Archbishop Blanch pupils clinch honours at Manufacturing Institute event

AN ALL-GIRL team from Liverpool’s Archbishop Blanch School triumphed in a business competition at Ellesmere Port.

Eleven schools from Liverpool, Wirral and Chester took part in the Make it Enterprising Event organised by the Manufacturing Institute at Capenhurst.

Their task was to design and build a 3-D prototype for holding nuclear waste products for transport, re-cycling and re-use.

Having formed “mini companies”, the teams then costed out their designs before appearing before a Dragons’ Den-style panel to make their “pitch”.

The “dragons” praised Archbishop Blanch for their team approach to the task.

Upton-by-Chester High School was runner-up.

Nicola Eagleton-Crowther, campaign manager for Make it at The Manufacturing Institute, said: “As we shift to a low-carbon economy, it is imperative that we encourage the brightest and best young people to consider careers in advanced manufacturing. Sectors such as the nuclear industry are reliant upon a highly skilled workforce.”
