Bootle social enterprise wins praise from government minister

A BOOTLE business which was put in jeopardy by a double-burglary has been praised by a government minister.

In April, LDP Business reported how Elixir Foundations lost £30,000-worth of IT equipment and tools in two break-ins in the space of two weeks.

The firm gives employment and training to a mixture of recovering drug addicts, ex-offenders and the long-term unemployed.

Managing director Ben Donnelly, himself a former alcoholic and drug addict, feared for its future.

However, Elixir did get back up and running and now Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd, has praised the firm for its “fantastic growth” and its “powerful social mission”.

Elixir has also been shortlisted for a RBS SE100 Trailblazing Newcomer award.

The growth is set to continue as the company has recently signed a deal with a national glass recycling company.
