New carbon compensation scheme calls on conference organisers to fund ‘green’ projects

LIVERPOOL Convention Bureau (LCB) has joined with climate fund Foundation to develop a “carbon compensation” scheme.

Organisers using the bureau for conferences will be asked to contribute £100 for a meeting of up to 100 delegates, ranging to £1,000 for a big event with more than 800 guests.

Foundation chief executive Mark Turner said: “All the money will be used to fund community projects, such as fitting solar panels and energy-efficient boilers in local halls and schools, and creating new woodlands.”

Since its formation in April, 2009, Foundation is on target to save 1,668 tonnes of CO², equal to powering the Mersey ferries for a year.
