Hope of progress on JJB Sport pay talks

THE GMB union has called on sports retailer JJB to open talks on its staff pay review, after winning the right to represent 358 workers at its warehouse in Wigan.

The company asked the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) to derecognise GMB, claiming staff no longer wished to be represented by it.

But the CAC has now found in favour of the union.

The GMB’s regional officer, Eddie Gaudie, responded: “This decision by CAC is a common-sense ruling.” JJB claimed it was forced to apply for de-recognition “because of the union’s inability to appoint a shop steward or enter negotiations with respect to pay for the whole of the warehouse workforce”.
