MORE than 200 staff from Newton-le-Willows plant hire group Speedy Hire took up oars to raise over £10,000 for the Help for Heroes charity.
They set sail in a Dragon Boat challenge staged at Salford Quays this month.
Staff from Speedy Hire depots formed 14 teams for the fund-raiser, and their Dudley crew triumphed with a time of 61.42 seconds over the 200-metre dash.
Simon Richards, the firm’s charity committee head, said: “Speedy is keen to support such a worthwhile cause.
“Everyone that took part had a fantastic day and the amount of money they helped raise will have a significant impact on those wounded in the service of their country.”
Help for Heroes chief executive Bryn Parry added: “Money raised is all used to provide direct, practical support to those wounded in the service of our country.
“We may not be able to prevent them from being hurt, but we can do our bit to help them get better. Speedy’s wonderful fund- raising is hugely welcome.”
