A BLOOD tracking system pioneered by Ellesmere Port technology firm MSoft is being rolled out across hospitals in the south of England.
The web-based electronic blood tracking system ensures the right blood gets to the right patient by controlling access to and from all blood fridges within a hospital trust, as well as providing safer bedside management.
Each bar-coded blood unit is matched with the patient’s bar-coded wristband in seconds by nurses using a combination of handheld devices and computers- on-wheels at the bedside.
Twenty wards at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital will go live with the system throughout this month, after a successful recent trial on three wards.
Other hospitals in the Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust will also use the system from early next year.
MSoft’s clients also include the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital Trust and the Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust.
Neil Patterson, operations and sales director with MSoft, said the system was efficient, cost-effective and improved patient safety.
