Mark Thomas and Andrew Campbell report on developments at the Shanghai Expo 2010
A NEW museum is at the heart of a massive development being planned for Liverpool’s historic Chinatown.
Sources said talks on the project – which could cost hundreds of millions of pounds – were at an advanced stage.
It is understood the development would also include a hotel complex, as well as a new Chinese Cultural Museum.
Chinese property developer Dr Lee Kai Hung has confirmed he was heavily involved in the project – dubbed “China Square” – which would regenerate a large area close to the city centre.
Liverpool’s Chinatown is the oldest Chinese community in the UK, and includes the landmark Scandinavian hotel.
A well-known North West developer is believed to be involved in the project.
