Cunard Building 300
CIVIL engineering consultancy Mouchel is planning to axe scores of jobs at its Cunard Building offices.
It is believed more than 100 staff work there providing “back office” functions such as IT, human resources, finance and payroll services.
Yesterday’s news is the second major private sector jobs blow to hit the city in two days. It follows news on Monday that pharmaceutical group Novartis wants to make 190 redundancies at its Speke plant.
Mouchel operates three office locations in Liverpool. As well as the Cunard Building, its 20/20 Liverpool joint venture with the city council is based in premises on Tithbarn Street.
Staff in the Cunard Building claimed the company is transferring all its support services to either Oldham or Lincoln.
One source said: “It looks like they want to create these jobs elsewhere, as it’s not going to be feasible for most people to travel. The company has been based in the city for years and now they’re considering moving.”
