A MAJOR cruise line, which is planning to stop operating from Liverpool, vowed it would run ships all year round from the Pier Head if the Government allows the city to upgrade its liner terminal.
Fred Olsen will stop running ships from the city’s Langton Dock from next year.
But the firm said if the Daily Post’s Get On Board campaign to get baggage handling and check-in facilities at the cruise liner terminal succeeds, it will continue to operate from Liverpool – and could triple the number of ships it schedules.
Liverpool City Council has asked the Government for permission to start and finish cruises in the city.
Labour ministers turned down a previous request, saying it could breach EU competition rules because a £15m grant was used to build the existing terminal.
The Daily Post is lobbying for the Government to lift a ban.
