A £2.2M refurbishment project in Bootle is helping local construction students experience life on a building site.
Trafford-based contractor Russells Construction welcomed 12 students from Hugh Baird College to one of the firm’s latest projects, the revamp of Caspian House at Atlantic Business Park.
The youngsters have all recently enrolled on the National Diploma in Construction (equivalent to three A-Levels) and aspire to go into the management side of the industry, in roles such as project managers, site engineers, quantity surveyors and architects.
A key part of the diploma’s delivery is enabling students to get an insight into the industry in which they hope to work, through work experience and site visits.
During the tour, the students donned protective hard hats and high visibility jackets, before being guided around the site by Russells Construction site manager Paul Knight and health and safety manager Roger Fitton.
The youngsters were all aged 16 or 17.
