STAFF at Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood plant will go on strike this month after being refused a pay rise.
The workers, who are employed on the supply chain by courier giants DHL, were alerted by text message after a ballot of Unite members in favour of industrial action.
The dispute came to a head after distribution staff who supply parts for the assembly line were refused a 6% pay rise while DHL Excel Supply Chain driving staff were granted the increase.
Sources told the Daily Post there was already resentment over what they claim was their employer’s refusal to honour a previous pay award offer.
One worker said: “It’s been building up to this for months. We tried to do it last time but they came up with a little sweetener. They said we’d all get £1,000 as a one-off payment, and that was supposed to be instead of the pay rise.
“We got told yesterday after a big meeting. We don’t know how long we’ll be out on strike for.
“They’ve given no justification for refusing the pay rise. Our drivers got one and the Jaguar workers did as well.”
