Jaguar Land Rover global sales showing continued growth

SALES of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) vehicles increased by 12% last month, compared with October, 2009, parent company Tata Motors Group has revealed.

The two luxury marques sold a total of 18,845 vehicles during October.

Jaguar brands, made in the West Midlands, managed to sell 3,219, which was a decline of 19%, while Land Rover achieved 15,626 sales, showing a 22% improvement on the same period last year.

Knowsley’s Halewood plant currently makes the Land Rover Freelander 2, and is gearing up to launch the new Range Rover Evoque model next summer.

The latest trading update by Indian conglomerate Tata, which bought JLR for £1.15bn, in March, 2008, also showed cumulative sales of JLR in the fiscal period from April to October hit 131,132, showing a 35% improvement against last year’s corresponding period.

Broken down by brand, they showed cumulative sales for Jaguar of 32,999, a 21% increase, while Land Rover managed to notch a 41% improvement with sales of 98,133. Global sales for Tata Motors, including JLR, Tata, Tata Daewoo and the Hispano Carrocera range of commercial vehicles, were 86,705 in October, up 18% over 2009, and cumulative sales were 598,639, higher by 44%.
