MERSEYSIDE’S biggest bus operator, Arriva North West, is celebrating after winning a top industry accolade.
Its Birkenhead garage has been named Top National Depot in the UK Bus Awards.
Arriva Birkenhead was put forward for the award for its “uniqueness” as a garage. It operates Cross River services to connect Wirral to Liverpool, providing an incentive for commuters to leave the car at home and catch the bus, avoiding the Merseytunnel tolls.
Howard Farrall, area managing director for Arriva Merseyside, said: “The Birkenhead depot is very proud of the service it operates and the team who operate it, and I am over the moon that it has won such a prestigious national award.”
Arriva Birkenhead’s drive towards improving operational standards has centred on service delivery, enhanced communication, and instilling a sense of pride in the team.
“Engineering excellence” has also had a part to play in an increase of operational standards at Birkenhead Depot, which has also been awarded Investors in People status.
The company added: “It shows how teamwork and communication can boost performance.”
The garage was represented at the ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, in Park Lane, London.
