INJUST under a fortnight, Liverpool FC shirt sponsor Standard Chartered Bank will launch a programme of international football clinics.
The first will take place in London and will feature Liverpool coaches and former players who will provide free football training for 200 disadvantaged and visually impaired youngsters.
Standard Chartered will also run a financial literacy workshop, explaining the basics of banking and managing personal finances, which it says are critical life skills that will help empower the children and ensure they become financially responsible citizens.
A pilot event, featuring former LFC striker Ian Rush, in Nairobi last year, was a huge success. After London, the clinics will take in Seoul, Mumbai and Dubai, in the heartland of Standard Chartered’s business arena covering 70 countries.
European chief executive Richard Holmes said: “Staging football clinics is a perfect way of helping us to fulfil our pledge of supporting the communities in which we work.”
