TELECOMS group TalkTalk said trading during the third quarter was relatively flat, but confirmed it was on course to meet full-year targets.

Revenues for the past three months were £444m, compared with £446m.

Chief executive Dido Harding said: “Our operating performance in the third quarter was in line with our expectations, and we remain on track to deliver our full-year guidance.”

The integration of the Tiscali business has now been completed and the company, which employs about 1,000 call centre staff at a Warrington call centre operation, recently initiated a reorganisation to cut costs, leading to 580 job losses.

A TalkTalk spokesman said yesterday that the exact locations of the job cuts from its 4,500-strong workforce have not been determined yet, but it is unlikely the Warrington base will be the “main focus”.

He said: “Where possible, we have safeguarded call centre staff.

“It will mainly be back office and head office functions and the call centre won’t be the main focus.”

The integration of Tiscali is expected to deliver £55m of savings, while the reorganisation could save £25m.

Ms Harding said: “We have made a good start implementing the new strategy we announced in November last year, focusing on simplifying our business, improving our operating margins and delivering value for money products and services for our existing customers.”

TalkTalk’s broadband customer base fell by 25,000 in the quarter, to 4.2m. The company blamed “continuing churn in the former Tiscali base”.
